World of Warcraft Card Game Loot Cards

Same great addiction in a whole new flavor!
Now that the UDE price point fiasco has been at least partially resolved by slashing the required points for loot in half, we can sit back and reflect on the brilliance of Blizzard’s tie-in between World of Warcraft the MMORPG and the World of Warcraft card game. I have never played a collectible card game in my life and never felt the desire to start playing one. Once I discovered that certain packs of the Warcraft card game contained loot cards, however, I rushed out and purchased two starter packs and a booster box.
I have since returned to purchase two more starter packs and two more booster boxes. Keep in mind that a few days ago I had no idea what a collectible card game was, yet I now own thousands of cards thanks to Blizzard and Upper Deck. Judging by the sell-outs and hefty premiums people are willing to pay to get boxes, it appears that I am not alone. A Heroes of Azeroth Booster Box, containing 24 packs, retails for approximately $93.99. With shortages, however, most retailers and ebay sellers are charging around $120 a box. There appears to be no shortage of buyers even at these inflated prices. Many of them, at least according to the stores where I purchased my cards, are purchasing solely for the chance to get a loot card.
For those unfamiliar with the loot cards, they are “scratch off” cards randomly placed in card packs. By scratching the silver coated area, players gain access to a code they can redeem for in-game items. Of course, these cards are quite rare, with rumors placing the rarer items at one card in 288 packs. There are currently three loot cards, and while they in no way enhance a character’s abilities, they are just the sort of trinket WOW players clamor for.

The Thunderhead Hippogryph Card.
The Thunderhead Hippogryph, a legendary “Ally” card, rewards players with a non-combat Hippogryph pet. The outlying areas of Azeroth can be a lonely place, which is why players always seem to clamor for new and rare pets. Much like the collector’s edition pets, the baby murloc, the oozling, and the various whelps, this new pet is already proving to be a highly prized item for all players.

Landro Longshot
Ebay “Buy it Now” Prices: $35-$60

The Landro Longshot Card.
The Landro Longshot card is another ally card, but more importantly for loot collectors, Landro represents the cheapest possible way to get a piece of in-game collectible goodness. This card comes with a code that players can turn in for a special tabard with a unique, non-guild design. Players wearing this tabard will most likely have instant camaraderie with the few others who managed to get their hands on one.
