Games and Hollywood: A Deadly Mix?

In Development

The preceding list represents all the video game movies that have seen a US theatrical release to date, but it is far from complete.  Hollywood has long since embraced the video game as a well of source material and IMDB lists all of the following titles (proposed release year in parentheses) as being in one stage or another of development.

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007)

Stars John Rhys-Davis, Matthew Lillard, Ray Liota, Lelee Sobieski, Burt Reynolds, and Ron Perlman, but don't get too excited it was directed by Uwe Boll.

Postal (2007)

Another Uwe Boll stinker, this one stars no one special and has already made news with a very tasteless advertisement featuring a plane flying into an office building, 9/11 style.  Doesn't this Boll guy ever sleep?

Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

Yep, another one.  Milla Jovovich, Mike Epps, and many of the cast from RE: Apocalypse return.  Ali Larter (Heroes) appears as Claire Redfield.

Hitman (2007)

Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47.  That’s all there is to know at this time.

Alice (2008)

Based on the divine and disturbing American McGee's Alice PC game it stars Sarah Michelle Gellar (Scream 2, The Grudge) and that's all we really know.

Far Cry (2008)

Uwe Boll is slated to direct this one too.  I'm sure it will be great.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2008)

Apparently Michael Bay is directing.

Mortal Kombat: Devastation (2008)

Reportedly the studio is in talks with Christopher Lambert to reprise his role as Raiden.

A few titles show up at IMDB but have no concrete information with them as of yet.  They include Siren (2007), Max Payne (2007), Cold Fear (2008), Driver (2008), Fear Effect (2008), Clock Tower (2008), Tekken (2009) - has been postponed repeated times already, so it may not happen - , Halo (2009) (Peter Jackson was involved, but the project is supposedly on hold at this time), The Suffering (2009), Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run (2009), Kane & Lynch (2009) (Yes, a film based on a game that has yet to be released.  Now that's Hollywood!), Gears of War (2009), Metal Gear Solid (2009), Splinter Cell: The Movie (2010).
