The Metal Gear Solid Retrospective: Part 1 - Metal Gear Solid

Home : Games : Articles

Speaking of spin-offs, Metal Gear Solid was later remade for the Nintendo GameCube and was retitled as Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, however it was critically slammed. Despite having the gorgeous graphics of Metal Gear Solid 2, the voice work was redone to the dismay of both critics and fans as being sub-par. The gameplay was also deemed “broken” because the remake allowed players to switch to first-person view effectively making the game much, much easier. The game has since been repackaged in it's original form in the Metal Gear Solid: Essentials Collection.

However amazing the achievement of the original game was, not everyone can fully grasp it and rightfully so, it is a twisted, perplexing game that takes you for more spins than a game probably should. It’s also a game that relies heavily on stealth gameplay so running and gunning is not a wise option. Finally, it is very story heavy with some of the cutscenes running about 15 to 20 minutes in length. So yeah, it’s perfectly understandable that this is a game that not everyone is going to love but should definitely try if they consider themselves a hardcore gamer.

Well kids, I think that about covers it. Two-thousand words later you have everything you need to know about the game and what I think is at least a respectable look back at the beginning of this fine series. If you read all of that, thank you and your reward for doing so, knowledge. And if you liked what you read, stick around, next week I will dive into the second game for part two of our Metal Gear Solid retrospective.
