The claim comes from IGN, so don't get too excited just yet. According to them, "It was officially confirmed for Wii and will make use of Nintendo's unique controller."

Ok, so it was "officially confirmed", but is it still confirmed? And by whom exactly? Who confirmed it and when? Tell us IGN! Perhaps they can't tell us, because they don't know, because it's still only a rumor. Last we heard, Spore creator Will Wright was merely considering the idea of a Wii version of the upcoming PC strategy game. He has mentioned that Spore will be available on consoles, but he is yet to confirm which consoles will receive the port.

Update: It turns out the game was confirmed by UK magazine NGamer, and is scheduled for a Spring 2007 release on the Wii. The Wii version is also said to feature some sort of data sharing with the DS version of the game. NGamer also reported that the Wii sensor bar is now half the size, around the size of two pencils stuck together.

Update #2: EA have made an official statement to silence the rumors put forth by IGN and NGamer magazine. "Right now we’re 100% focused on finishing SPORE on the PC and PC only. Though we’re investigating the possibilities of bringing the franchise to other platforms in the future, any announcements or confirmations for the Wii or any other platform would be premature."
