Spong recently held an interview with SNK’s UK boss, Ben Herman regarding all things Wii following Nintendo’s announcement that SNK titles would be coming to the Virtual Console.
Unfortunately not all the news was good; Ben suggested that Nintendo may be keeping the tools needed to create online games from third party developers right up until next year!
"Nintendo is still not letting Wii third-party publishers include online capabilities in their games and it doesn't look like they will during 2007. So the best chance they have at building an online presence appears to be what they're doing with Virtual Console."
Whilst the lack of online third party titles thus far would seem to confirm this allegation we have not received an official announcement from Nintendo themselves as of yet. So at least for now take this with a little bit of salt and hope for the best.
After all Nintendo’s own online launch up is looking rather dry at the moment, they could really do with some third party support if they want to even attempt to stand up against Xbox Live, so it would seem like a rather silly decision on their part if it is true.
