Final Fantasy III Launch Date Confirmed

European release date for the upcoming DS remake of the SNES classic confirmed as the 4th of May.

Earlier today Square Enix revealed the official release date for Final Fantasy III on the DS in Europe and other PAL territories as the 4th of May. The game is a remake of the original Super Nintendo (Famicom) title that was released a massive 17 years ago!

But fear not, the game has undergone a serious makeover both visually and otherwise, so gamers will be getting far more than a simple port. It’s also worth noting that the original title never made its way to Europe before now, meaning this will be a brand new adventure for most gamers.

The President and CEO at Square Enix, John Yamamoto offered the following comments about the title;

“The arrival of Final Fantasy III on Nintendo DS showcases the power of the hardware and proves that no compromise has to be made in order to create an adventure of this magnitude for a handheld system. With over 1.4 million copies already shipped in Japan and North America, we are sure that FINAL FANTASY III will be a big success in Europe too.”

Hiromichi Tanakam the Director and Executive Producer of the game also had some comments;

“Final Fantasy III has been made anew on the Nintendo DS platform, including new graphics in 3D, rebalanced jobs, and brand new characterisation for the four young heroes. We hope that not only FINAL FANTASY fans, but a wide variety of players in Europe, enjoy the new Final Fantasy III.”

At the time of writing this leaves about a month and a half to start collecting those pennies ready for the game’s launch. With any luck we might even be able to treat you to a full review come launch time so stick with GWN for that!
