Those following the next-gen format war will be interested to know that sales for HD DVDs in Europe are now at an all-time high, toppling the Blu-ray format from its number one place. After the release of the PS3 (which included discount vouchers for Blu-ray movie purchases), sales of the format were strong. Now, it seems the tables are beginning to turn somewhat, as HD DVD is currently selling more movies. Whether HD DVD can stay on top for long is anybody's guess, but it's a sure sign that the format war is most definitely not over, and that both formats are in it for the long haul.

The recent surge in HD DVD sales is being attributed to a slew of new releases for the format.
