In what could be seen as a sign of the times, the company has decided to start developing for next-gen consoles.
Previously known only for their PC games (Gothic, Painkiller, SpellForce and Dungeon Lords would be good examples), DreamCatcher has announced that they intend to shift their focus to console games effective immediately. The move suggests things may not have been too good in the land of PC game publishing.
With top-grossing franchises like Gothic, SpellForce, Painkiller and Dungeon Lords vying for console versions, JoWooD is in a favorable situation and is convinced of its ability to successfully position the new games in the console market.
DreamCatcher and JoWooD have already started to negotiate with development studios and schedule the first releases at the end of 2008, beginning of 2009; effectively ending legacy projects on the previous generation of consoles scheduled later this year.
Is it only a matter of time before other PC game companies jump ship to consoles?
