Portable Wii Goes On Sale in Japan

Home : News : News Story

The 7-inch portable Wii LCD includes its own IR sensor bar, but is it big enough to be truly useful?

Let's face it, the Wii is small, but it isn't exactly what you'd call 'pocket size'. Adding an LCD screen to the Wii makes no sense if you intend to use the thing like a DS. But what if you just want something to play while you're on that next road trip, or while you're sitting in a hotel?

At just 14,800 Yen (US$119), this screen is about as good as it's going to get in terms of Wii portability (until ultra-thin OLED screens shed precious millimeters off this design a decade from now). Unfortunately it's only available in Japan, with no word on if it will ever reach European or North American shores.
