Sid Meier has stated that he believes console owners are ready to embrace strategy titles.
Sid Meier has declared that console owners are “ready to step up to strategy gaming”, as his studio prepares development of the upcoming console release of Civilisation: Revolution.
Speaking in light of the upcoming turn-based strategy game, Meier told CVG: “there's a much wider variety of game genres becoming interesting on the consoles".
"I think the console audience has evolved to where it's not just hand-eye action games that we're seeing," he added. "The console audience is ready to step up to strategy gaming, especially when we can present in a way that looks cool and sounds cool."
Despite this, Meier was keen to highlight that studio Firaxis Games would differ in its approach to console releases compared to that of PC software. "For Civilization, right now we have a separate approach for console versus PC because the PC version's really a fourth generation, it's really evolved to be a game that serves the hardcore, fanatic Civilization fan base”, he explained.
Civilization: Revolution is scheduled to ship for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and DS early next year.
