Castlevania creator Koji Igarashi has expressed interest in making the next console-based entry in the series exclusively for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console, for reasons attributed to the consoles popularity in North America.
"I will be working on a DS [Castlevania game]", he said, adding "but I am thinking of moving to the home consoles for the future. I will continue to use 2D for the DS version, but I'm still trying to figure out which console to do the home console versions. I think the Xbox 360 would be the best platform for the U.S. market.”
Indeed, Igarashi feels that Sony’s PlayStation 3 would not be a suitable platform to host the next instalment of the series due to its lower install base: "The U.S. market is the biggest market for the Castlevania series, so I will give the first priority to the U.S. market. The platform will be the Xbox 360, since the PS3 isn't doing well everywhere in the world," he observed.
However, he did state that he expects sales of the console to rise following the release of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. As such, this may prompt the company to release a Castlevania game on the PS3 at some point in the future.
Lastly, he said that an announcement regarding the next DS entry in the series would be issued "soon".
