The company has refused to allow its Guitar Hero peripherals to be used in conjunction with MTV’s recent music title.
Last month, Harmonix finished work on a Playstation 3 patch, which would allow Activision’s Guitar Hero III controller to be used with MTV Games’ Rock Band title.
The patch was all set for release earlier this month following approval from Sony, but the company today issued a statement noting that Activision has refused to allow Sony to release the patch.
"As we have said in the past, Harmonix and MTV Games believe in an open standard philosophy of hardware and game compatibility.
Unfortunately, Activision objected to the release of the compatibility patch. The patch remains with Sony, but we have been told that it will unfortunately not be released due to Activision's continued objection.”
Both companies have confirmed that they are happy for developers to support Rock band controllers, and hope that “Activision and others in the industry will also adopt [their] philosophy” in the future.
