Earlier this year Sega announced that the latest instalment in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will arrive later this year in the form of Sonic Unleashed for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

Plot-wise, Sonic Unleashed focuses on the blue blur's quest to undo Dr. Eggman/Robotnik's evil work and “put the pieces of the world back together” using the power of the Chaos emeralds.

Gameplay will change depending on whether the player is playing during the day or at night, with the former focused on the usual high-speed chases and ring-collecting, etc., and the latter focused on combat.
