Another lackluster collection of problematic ports of older games for the PSP.

I was very excited to pop Capcom Puzzle World into the good ol' PSP and dive head-long into a slew of old arcade puzzle games, some very familiar and some new to our shores.  After a few minutes with the game, however, I realized that this should have just been titled something like Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo and a Bunch of Stuff You Won't Care About.

Block Block - under extreme magnification.

Surely, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is the treasure buried upon this desert island, but at least you don't need a map to find it.  It's not that the other games are all bad (in fact I quite enjoy Super Buster Bros.), but some of them are either poorly ported or just plain uninteresting.

Included in the surprisingly sparse collection are Buster Bros., Super Buster Bros, Buster Buddies, Block Block, and the aforementioned Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.  That's not a lot of bang for the buck, but the excellent version of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo makes the collection worthwhile.

Super Buster Bros.

The problems with some of the games comes in the way they were ported over to Sony's handheld.  Block Block in particular suffers because it was not reformatted to fit the PSP's screen.  This was an old school verticle screen game which means the image on the widescreen PSP is so teency weency that even a teen with 20/20 vision will find himself squinting to play the game which is little more than Capcom's answer to Breakout. In addition to the issues with the screen size, the analog paddle control that was a part of the original game just doesn't transfer well to the PSP.  The inability to move the "paddle" with the analog precision that the original version required renders the game frustrating and nearly unplayable.
