It’s finally here, EA have just launched the highly anticipated Tiberium Wars single player demo!

Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is a game that needs no introduction, but we’ll give it a quick one just for the sake of completeness. Tiberium Wars is the latest installment in the massively popular Command & Conquer Real Time Strategy series for the PC. Spanning generations and literally re-inventing the entire genre for a mass audience, Command & Conquer will forever hold a place in gamer’s hearts, but does the latest outing live up to its reputation? We put the single player demo to the test to find out.

Harsh desert landscape!

As far as demo’s go, this one provides a pretty thorough look at the final game. The demo is split up into three playable sections; a tutorial for brand new players trying to get to grips with the controls and interface, two campaign missions to start putting those skills to the test and finally a single skirmish map where you can forget about objectives and just go all out against an AI opponent! We’ll take a quick look at each below and let you know if the overall package is worth the rather large download (over 1 Gb).

Firstly, the tutorial is just as you would expect; fairly slow, very explanatory and generally not a lot of fun. Nevertheless it does do a superb job of warming you up to everything you will need to know later on such as, how to select and maneuver units, build structures, engage enemies, etc. You take control of a small GDI force (the good guys) but the instructions are general enough to be applied across the board later on. Seeing as though there wouldn’t be a lot of point in downloading a demo just to learn how to play EA have thankfully included a couple of solo campaign missions as well.

Explosive desert battle!
