Hot Dog King

Weenies for everyone!

If this were, say, two years ago or so I'm sure this game would be called Hot Dog Tycoon rather than Hot Dog King.  Perhaps the publishers realized that the Tycoon moniker, once a lure into the world of business and building sims thanks largely to the original Railroad Tycoon by Sid Meier, now translates to near total suckage in the minds of most gamers.

Yes, you get to choose the wardrobe adorned by your staff.

And that's a good thing for said publishers because Hot Dog King doesn't suck.  It's not the greatest sim of its kind either, but I went into this one expecting a completely dull experience and was pleasantly surprised that there is some fun to be had with this title.

On the surface, Hot Dog King starts out like most games of this type.  You're tasked (in the main campaign mode) with building a veritable fast food empire from the ground up.  Starting with limited venture capital (the amount varies based upon the play style you choose at the start of the game), you must purchase a location, hire help, order the foodstuffs you will sell, and buy the necessary equipment to store and prepare your food.

Staff morale is a big part of being a successful Hot Dog King.

Micro-management is the name of the game in these types of games and it is the point that kills many of them.  HDK requires you to control everything from your daily orders to the outfits worn by your staff and the markup percentage you charge.  All of this is handled through a system of menus that is anything but user friendly.
