Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift has made its way to store shelves and is bound to please fans of the series.

Taking place in Ivalice, Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift is a tactical RPG. Some may remember Ivalice from Final Fantasy XII or even in the first Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, but the history town actually made its debut in the original Final Fantasy Tactics on the Playstation 1. Now with all that rich history built up, does FFTA2 deliver the goods to Ivalice or should gamers be prepared to wince at every moment spent within the game?

Playing as a high school student named Luso Clemens, players will once again enter a world full of monsters, jobs to master, and hundreds of quests to embark on. Entering Ivalice through the method of writing his name in a book, Luso is transported to an Ivalice that is more akin to FFXII rather than FFTA1 due to the inclusion of Vaan and other returning characters. With his true intentions to get back to his own world, Luso’s adventures are entertaining and light for all ages.

With Moogles and Chocobos galore, the world is what veteran Final Fantasy players should come to expect from Square-Enix nowadays. If that isn’t enough to say that FFTA2 has the makings of a Final Fantasy title, then the inclusion of a FF regular named Cid should be. Cid is the leader of the Clan Gully who meets Luso when he enters Ivalice and introduces him to the world. If that’s not enough to persuade you on all the connections that FFTA2 has to previous FF titles, then having Vaan as a playable character should convince you otherwise if you’re interested to see his adventures continued after the conclusion of FFXII.

For customization of Luso, players will be tasked with answering personality tests that will determine his strengths and weaknesses. They’ll help steer you in the right direction of a job that’ll suite you, though you can always change the job at anytime throughout the game. The job system even allows you to change your job in mid-battle, so there should be no frets over being stuck with a job that isn’t that enticing (i.e. White Mage who’s basic job is to heal).

Keeping a happy medium in terms of party balance is recommended in terms of pushing through the game at a record pace. Having a party full of thieves will not get you far in the game, so be sure to keep your party diverse with archers, black mages and other various jobs. Outside of the usual suspect line-up of jobs, players can specialize in jobs such as: Beastmaster, Viking, Arcane Mage, Time Mage, and even a Juggler.
